IAC BERLIN: EXHIBITION: BEFORE TODAY IS TOMORROW: Tinka Bechert investigates the shifting perceptions and conceptions of historical time and the collective concept of 'history', a term coined only in the 18th century. Referencing this particular turning point of the conceptualization of time and historical methodology, Bechert uses imagery relating to the era of enlightenment to point to its lasting influence on modernity.
As the modern world faces not only increasing temporal acceleration but also historical disorientation, Bechert's work aims to visualize this contemporary tendency through her Drawings and installation works.
The artist creates an environment consisting of spatial, virtual and historic surroundings, that aims to relocate past and present through the assimilation of chance, temporality and personal experience. These ideas are expressed through a series of line-drawings and wall-installations which echo scientific imagery in order to create new narratives of personal perception. These drawings are presented on lightboxes in order to reference digital media and their impact on the perception and visibility of 'analog' artworks.
