Boomtown Ireland 2005/ 2006
Tinka Bechert's typical affinity with art-historical genres continues in this body of work, in which the artist explores the genre of landscape painting. Through referencing romantic notions of Nature in her chosen home of rural Ireland, these paintings captured the changes taking place due to Irelands short-lived economical boom. The artist deconstructs the 'Sublime' visions of landscape by capturing the canges that were taking place during the 'Celtic Tiger'. Real estate signage and diggers feature alongside the tokenistic irish cottage to hint at the not so idyllic side of a changing economy and its impact on the landscape.
